About
Payton Cardis is an Illustration Artist and Painter living in West Virginia. Originally from Mississippi, Payton moved out west 10+ years ago in hopes of living amongst the mountains. It was there (in the Sierra Nevada Mountains) that she met her husband, Daniel, and had her son, Davis. Now, ‘home’ is in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia. The mountains look a bit different, yet, continue to provide a source of endless inspiration for the artist.
Payton’s love of drawing has been a therapeutic outlet since childhood and continues today. Through drawing and painting she “offloads” the worries and struggles of the day and in doing so, cultivates peace within. “My art is truly an act of self preservation. I need to create in order to function properly and I have deep gratitude for being able to turn my anxiety into beautiful art pieces.” Inspiration for Payton’s work comes from being in nature. As she finds calm in creating, she also finds tranquility in being in the outdoors.
As a new mother and artist, Payton finds joy in sharing creative moments with her son. She also takes time to create in brief moments of solitude with watercolor and ink pen.
You can find Payton’s work in a myriad of public and private locations throughout the United States. Payton lives with her husband and son, Daniel and Davis in Shepherdstown, WV.
